My daily life living in the suburbs of Tokyo, Japan

About me

”Driving"

Hello.

I am Japanese in my late 40s living in the suburbs of Tokyo.

My wife and two kids are my family.

I have experienced major events such as the “employment ice age”, “the Lehman Shock”, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

When I graduated from university, Japan was in a severe recession.

Many people, myself included, were unable to find job.

I managed to get by by working part-time jobs.

What was harsh was “the Lehman Shock”.

The Nikkei Stock Average is in the 7,000 yen range!

It was a record decline.

By the way, the Nikkei average stock price in December 2024 is in the 39,000 yen range.

Around this time, I saw a lot of homeless people around my age.

There were no job openings, even part-time.

I was fortunate to have a job, but I lived in fear of being fired at any time.

“The Great East Japan Earthquake” occurred, and the recession was prolonged.

At this time, I hadn't eaten my favorite foods, sashimi and sushi, for many years.

When shopping at a supermarket, low prices are a priority. I was desperate to buy cheap food.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the company I work for suffered a deterioration in performance, and we no longer received bonuses

Even if people quit, they wouldn't replenish it, so I worked late into the night.

My body and mind were worn out.

Even after the COVID-19 pandemic ends, there is still no real sense that the economy has improved.

My journey to economize continues.
