- Cherry Blossoms for Everyone -
There are several cherry trees in my condo.
Recently, we found out that the largest cherry tree is damaged.
Mushrooms have often been growing on this cherry tree for some time.
This indicates potential damage or decay in the trunk and roots.
Condo association used the building's reserve fund to hire experts for an inspection.
The investigation revealed that the interior of the cherry tree is decaying.
Condo association decided to cut down the tree.
Because if the tree falls, it could cause serious injuries.
But..., some residents fiercely opposed the decision.
"Cutting down a cherry tree is simply unthinkable!"
"It looks healthy, so we must preserve it at all costs!"
This conflict has left deep-seated resentment.
A different tree wouldn't have caused this much trouble.
- The Great Cherry Tree -
I went to see the Great Cherry Tree.
It is a 400-year-old solitary cherry tree.
It’s a bit off the beaten path, with limited access.
I parked at a nearby park and walked the rest of the way.
Google Maps took me through some crazy backroads, but I arrived at my destination safely.
They were in 70% bloom, approaching full bloom.
It stays in full bloom for only 2 or 3 days, so I’m so glad I came at just the right time.
This great cherry tree is also suffering from internal decay.
However, this great cherry tree will never be cut down.
Located in a remote area, it poses no risk to anyone.
Efforts continue to let it live for centuries more.
The variety of this cherry tree is "Yamazakura", and its language of flowers is "Smiling at you".
May good luck come to you.
