Spring on My Balcony
- Spring flower pots -
The Komatsuna, Mizuna, and Broccolini I was growing on my balcony... they were in full bloom before I knew it..., and they got eaten by birds.
Recently, the temperature on my balcony has started to exceed 15°C (59°F).
So, I replaced the soil in the flower pots, and sowed seeds for Nasturtiums, Mizuna, and Radishes.
Strong winds howl across my balcony, and because it doesn't get much sunlight, plants don't grow very well.
"I'll be lucky if I can harvest anything."
Always keeping this in mind, I enjoy my balcony gardening.
- Spring goldfish -
I started keeping goldfish last summer.
The goldfish on my balcony successfully made it through the winter.
The kids wanted the goldfish, but I’m the only one taking care of them.
Since the goldfish have become more active, I gave their tank a thorough cleaning.
During the warm daylight hours, I changed two-thirds of the water.
Since green algae was tangled in the water plants, I removed it all and cleaned them up.
During the winter, it seems like the goldfish were eating the water plants.
They didn't look thin and appeared to be healthy.
But I can't let my guard down.
Goldfish are delicate after hibernation.
I’ll be watching them closely.
- Cleaning my balcony -
During the winter, since I hadn't cleaned the balcony, I cleaned it with a pressure washer.
While I was at it, I also cleaned the window screens and the glass.
As for the pressure washer, I only started using it last year, but it's been incredibly useful.
Balcony gardening really makes the balcony dirty.
I used to scrub it with a deck brush.
But thanks to the pressure washer, without using much physical effort, I can now finish cleaning in much less time.
Now, my balcony is all set for spring.
