My daily life living in the suburbs of Tokyo, Japan

Struggling with corporate social media

First snow

The first snow of the year fell in Tokyo on January 2nd.

I was just driving on the Shuto Expressway.(Tokyo's metropolitan highway)

Even 5 cm (about 2 inches) of snow is expected to cause chaos in central Tokyo.

Fortunately, the snow didn't really accumulate this time.

The new year has only just begun, but my mind is already full of work.

Prices in Japan are rising due to soaring labor costs and the weak yen.

More onigiri are priced over 200 yen these days.

(The current exchange rate is about 158 yen to the dollar.)

Consumers are becoming even more cautious with their spending.

The company I work for is in the retail industry, so we are being affected.

Business performance is deteriorating.

At the end of last year, my company told me to increase sales through Social media.

To be honest, I can't help but feel like, "Why now?"

Social media platforms commonly used in Japan include Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, and YouTube.

Our CEO wants to use Facebook, but it feels like there aren't many active users in Japan.

I have a Facebook account, but I hardly ever use it.

I have started using YouTube to introduce our products.

I have become capable of making basic videos.

The target audience on TikTok is different, so I will be considering Instagram or X.

Personally, I think Instagram is the strongest candidate.

Since it's the same company as Facebook, it will be easier to explain it to our CEO :-)

Unfortunately, I don't have a flair for it.

I am planning to leave it to someone who uses Instagram on a daily basis.

If I were in charge, I had probably end up posting photos of my dinner from last night.

I was thinking while I was driving—do people really check social media before buying something?

In my personal opinion, I feel like individual posts about products are decreasing on Social media.

Given the current climate, how do our corporate posts come across to the audience?

That's exactly the part I'm worried about.

In my case, I hardly watch anything on Instagram besides short videos of cats, dogs, and parrots.

"Why does our company Instagram have so few followers!?"

I can already picture our CEO getting angry.

Honestly, it would be so much easier if our CEO just updated it himself.
