Skirt steak, Christmas, Kani nabe

I got home. The temperature outside was 4 degrees Celsius. It was cold.
This year, we managed to make it to the end of the year.
The company's performance is poor and the situation is likely to be quite tough next year.

Dinner one day.
I bought some beef skirt steak.
Because of poor performance, the atmosphere within the company was very negative.
I was feeling stressed so I decided to eat something delicious.
Beef skirt steak is an expensive cut of meat, but I was able to buy some on sale.
It was 275 yen per 100g, which is the same price as regular beef.

I made a soy sauce and butter steak sauce.
It is made with soy sauce, sake, mirin, and butter.
I'll cook off the alcohol while being careful not to overcook it.
Mix well and it's done.

I grilled 1kg of beef skirt steak on a well-heated grill pan.
When I'm cooking, I can forget about work.
Cook for 3 minutes on one side, then turn and cook for 3 minutes on the other side.
For six minutes, I completely forgot about work.

My kids came over every now and then to check the doneness of the meat.
It's skirt steak, after all! I'm looking forward to them enjoying it.

I was able to bake it well.
Although it's just before Christmas, I decided to enjoy a slightly luxurious meal.

December 24th. Christmas Eve.
In Japan, Christmas is mainly celebrated on December 24th.

In Japan, it is common to eat roast chicken.

And cake too.
It's not a holiday in Japan, so I bought both on my way home from work.

Dinner one day.
I made pork bowl.
The electric rice cooker was being used for another purpose, so I cooked rice in a pot.

The stir-fried vegetables served on top of the rice are bean sprouts and carrots.
I stir fried it quickly over high heat to preserve the texture.

The meat this time was pork tongue.
At just 150 yen per 100g, it's a budget-friendly meat.

I put the stir-fried vegetables on the rice, and then topped it with pork tongue.
This pork bowl was a big hit with my kids.

First day of winter break.
I woke up at 10am.
The goldfish on the balcony were staying still because of the cold.

I harvested the vegetables I was growing on the balcony.
It's cold so the growth is slow, but we're still able to harvest.
I harvest roughly once a week.
Makes about 6 servings of salad.
All of the ingredients in this salad were grown on my balcony.

In Japan, it is customary to eat more extravagant meals than usual at the end and beginning of the year.
We had kani nabe (crab hotpot).
It is a Japanese dish made with crab and vegetables simmered in a traditional Japanese broth.
I want to eat something delicious and recharge my motivation.
Have a great New Year's Eve, everyone!
